As per a report in Mid-Day, the film is scheduled to go on floor in the first quarter of 2024, with Sunny Deol leading the cast once again. The report suggests that the sequel would be revisiting the 1971 India-Pakistan War and that Nidhi has plans on designing the biggest war film made in the country.
Bobby Deol says mother Prakash Kaur says ‘Aisi film mat kiya kar tu’ after watching ‘Animal’
The report also suggests that unlike the first part, which solely focussed on the Army, the sequel will show the joint working of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force and it will also showcase personal stories of the 1971 war heroes.
The concept for the sequel originated in 2022, and the script was ultimately finalized in April 2023, with Nidhi writing both the screenplay and dialogues. Obtaining essential permissions from the Defence Ministry to shoot in authentic locations and use real names necessitated a year of effort and multiple visits to Delhi, says the report.
The Duttas and leading man Deol are set for a reunion, especially after Deol’s rapid ascent following the phenomenal success of ‘Gadar 2: The Katha Continues’. Joining him would be Ayushmann Khurrana, whose contract is expected to be finalized next week. The makers were clear that they wouldn’t go ahead without Sunny being part of the film. While Nidhi is the creative force behind the project, she is reported to have entrusted the directorial responsibilities to Anurag Singh, known for directing the Akshay Kumar-led period drama ‘Kesari’ (2019).
