Bhagyashree recently took a trip down memory lane as she reminisced about the amusing first encounter with filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, who later cast her opposite Salman Khan in the 1989 film Maine Pyar Kiya.
In a recent interview, she shared the humorous story of how she thought that their parents were setting up an arranged marriage with the director. The unexpected meeting unfolded when Sooraj Barjatya’s father Raj Babu, who was acquainted with Bhagyashree’s father, reached out to set up a meeting between the families.
Bhagyashree narrated the incident, saying, “Raj babu, Sooraj ji’s dad, knew my dad socially. He called up my father and said, ‘Aapse milna hai, main apne bete ko leke aa raha hoon (I want to meet you, I’m bringing my son along).” Without informing Bhagyashree and Sooraj, their fathers had apparently discussed this prior to the meeting.
The scene was set in Bhagyashree’s garden, where both families gathered. Bhagyashree recalled the surprising turn of events, stating, “Sooraj ji and his father were sitting on one side, and my parents were sitting on the other. Raj babu said, ‘Mera beta aapki beti se kuch baat karna chahta hai, bachche doosre kamre mein jaake baat karein (My son wants to talk to your daughter, can they speak privately)?’”

Bhagyashree initially believed that their parents were arranging her marriage to Sooraj. However, her concerns were quickly dispelled when Sooraj’s father clarified the situation. He revealed, “My son wants to become a director, but I told him that he must first get married. And now that he’s married, he is ready to make his film.”

While the amusing misunderstanding brought laughter to the initial meeting, it marked the beginning of a successful cinematic journey for Bhagyashree and Sooraj Barjatya. Maine Pyar Kiya went on to become a blockbuster, catapulting Bhagyashree and

Salman Khan to stardom overnight.
Despite the film’s success, Bhagyashree chose to step away from her acting career, focusing on her family. Recently she made a comeback in a cameo appearance in Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ka Jaan.
