Bhavatharini Death News: Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter and National Award-winning singer Bhavatharini passes away |

Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter Bhavatharini, who had been undergoing treatment for cancer, passed away this evening, at around 5.20pm, in Sri Lanka. She was reportedly suffering from health problems and had gone to Sri Lanka for Ayurvedic medical treatment.
Ilaiyaraaja is also currently in Sri Lanka, where he is scheduled to perform a concert this weekend.
Reportedly, Bhavatharini’s medical condition was diagnosed to be stones in her gall bladder, but it was only later that it was confirmed to be stomach cancer, and that she was in the final fourth stage.
The family, we hear, is preparing to bring her mortal remains back to Chennai from Sri Lanka for her final rituals.
Bhavatharini, an accomplished singer and music composer, was awarded the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2000 for her rendition of the song “Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu” from the film Bharathi, composed by her father Ilaiyaraaja.
Bhavatharini made her debut as a singer in Tamil with the Prabhudeva-starrer ‘Raasaiyya’, singing the popular song ‘Masthana Masthana’ along with Arunmozhi and SN Surendar. She turned music director for the 2002 film Mitr, My Friend, directed by Revathy and starring Shobhana. She had also composed music for Phir Milenge, directed by Revathy.
