Farah Khan started her career in the film industry as a choreographer and she quickly gained recognition for her work in films like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Dil To Pagal Hai. Her choreography was known for its energy, creativity, and ability to make even non-dancers look graceful on screen. She recently opened up about working with stalwarts like Mani Ratnam and Priyadarshan in south films and revealed that Telugu star Nagarjuna was the first one to increase her fees.
She told Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa for their podcast LOL that she did many South films and worked with several directors after Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. And this is why the discipline and organisation skills have come from there.
Talking about her experience of working with Priyadarshan in Virasat, Farah said, “They are very fast. Their style is so fast, and they don’t waste any time. They will quickly set the frame, the actors are also punctual and will come at 5 am for the shoot.”
She added, “Then I worked a lot with Mani Ratnam sir. I did Dil Se and before that Iruvar and Alai Payuthey, which is the south version of Saathiya. They have different logic and working style. With us (Bollywood), everything is leisurely, but there it is like an army is working.”

Recalling her days from the year 1994-95, Farah said that she has choreographed a lot of Telugu songs with Nagarjuna and the Telugu star was the first person who raised her price as a choreographer. At that time per song, Farah said she must have charged around 10k or 15k.

In 2004, Farah made a successful transition from being a choreographer to a film director with her debut film Main Hoon Na. She followed it up with another hit, Om Shanti Om (2007), which further solidified her position as a director who could deliver both commercially successful and entertaining films.

Apart from directing, Farah has also ventured into film production. She, along with her husband Shirish Kunder, established their production company, Three’s Company. Under this banner, she has produced films like Tees Maar Khan (2010) and Joker (2012).
