Makers have announced a thrilling shift in the release date of “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” moving it a week earlier from March 29 to March 22, 2024. This strategic move aims to capitalise on an additional week of spring break viewership, setting the stage for a riveting showdown at the box office alongside other highly anticipated titles.
The upcoming installment in the iconic Ghostbusters franchise, “Frozen Empire,” is slated to screen in IMAX and premium large formats. The storyline takes a nostalgic turn as the Spengler family reunites at the legendary New York City firehouse, partnering with the original Ghostbusters.
This seasoned team has been crafting a covert research lab to elevate their ghost-busting endeavors. However, an ancient artifact’s discovery unleashes a malevolent force, compelling the old and new Ghostbusters to unite, safeguard their home, and thwart a looming global catastrophe—a second Ice Age.
Deriving inspiration from Ivan Reitman‘s 1984 classic Ghostbusters, penned by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, “Frozen Empire” stands as the fifth film in the revered series, following the success of 2021’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” which amassed over $204 million worldwide. “Afterlife” delves into the story of Callie Spengler (played by Coon), a single mother whose connection to the original Ghostbusters team unravels in the midst of mysterious supernatural occurrences, unveiling her estranged father’s legacy.
Returning to the franchise alongside Coon in “Frozen Empire” are esteemed cast members such as Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. The sequel also welcomes actors Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt, promising a star-studded ensemble.
