In a night filled with glamour and anticipation, the 81st Golden Globe Awards unfolded with ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Poor Things‘ emerging as the big winners of the night. The prestigious event saw these two films securing top honours in the categories of Best Drama and Best Movie Comedy or Musical, respectively.
Cillian Murphy took home the Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Film for his exceptional performance in ‘Oppenheimer’, further solidifying the film’s triumphant run all the way up to the Oscars.Meanwhile, Emma Stone clinched the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy for her portrayal of Bella Baxter in the charming ‘Poor Things’.
‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ secured its sole award of the night as Lily Gladstone triumphed in the category of Best Actress – Drama.Despite being the top nominee of the year, ‘Barbie’ claimed only two awards. The film outshone Taylor Swift to seize the inaugural Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award, a testament to its exceptional global success, grossing $1.4 billion worldwide. “Barbie” shattered records, becoming the most successful film by a female filmmaker at the domestic box office, and the largest global film release of 2023. Notably, the highly emotional song “What Was I Made For?” from the movie soundtrack, composed by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, earned the award for Best Original Song, marking a poignant victory.
Meanwhile, on the television space, ‘Succession‘, a highly-nominated show, not only clinched the title of Best Television Drama Series but also secured double wins for lead actors Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook, adding to the night’s excitement.
The Bear‘ emerged victorious as the Best Television Comedy, with lead stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri basking in the glow of their wins in acting categories.
Making history, ‘Beef‘ claimed the Golden Globe for Best Television Limited Series. The comedy-drama, featuring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, achieved a groundbreaking feat as the first show created by and starring Asian Americans to win in its category.
