International Emmy Awards 2023 Complete Winners’ List: Vir Das wins for Best Comedy, Karla Souza and Martin Freeman take home Best Actor trophies | English Movie News

The International Emmy Awards 2023 brought together 56 nominees across 20 countries together under one roof to award and recognise the best in the business.
Comedian Vir Das, who was among the three Indian talents contending this year in the Comedy category, scored his first Emmy win. However, he had to share his award with ‘Derry Girls‘, the series from the United Kingdom that featured Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn in lead roles.

Shefali Shah, who was contending in the Best Actress category for her role in ‘Delhi Crime Season 2’, lost out to Karla Souza, who bagged the award for her performance in ‘La Caida [Dive]’.

Jim Sarbh, the star of ‘Rocket Boys’, who was also up for an award in the Best Actor category, lost the award to English actor Martin Freeman for his role in ‘The Responder’.
It was a big day for the Indian film fraternity, as Ektaa Kapoor was conferred with the Directorate Award. Taking to Instagram, Ektaa shared a video of the prestigious award, which she captioned, “India I’m bringing home YOUR Emmy.”

Reflecting on this momentous achievement, the producer expressed her gratitude, and stated, “It brings me immense joy and happiness to be honoured at a global scale, such as this. I’ve always wanted to tell stories because they give me a chance to be heard, seen and represented. I am grateful for the audience’s love that has opened doors for me, allowing me to transition from television to the world of films and OTT.”

Nominees of the awards came from, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Qatar, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
The United Kingdom earned the highest number of awards for their shows including The Responder, Derry Girls, Mariupol: The People’s Story and The Smeds and The Smoos. Next in line was Australia with 3 wins.
