Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi starrer ‘Merry Christmas‘ has released today along side two other big movies from the south. ‘Hanuman’ starring Teja Sajja has also released in Hindi and both these films have got a very lukewarm response so far as far as the advances are concerned.
‘Merry Christmas’ has sold 9000 tickets in the top three national chains till Thursday.Around 7000 tickets of the film have been sold at PVR while 2000 tickets were sold at Cinepolis. Considering the film is a niche one, like usually Sriram Raghavan‘s movies are, there was immense anticipation for it owing to the unique pairing of Vijay and Katrina. So, there’s a very high possibility that the ticket sales may increase by the end of its Day 1 and over the weekend, if it gets good reviews and word of mouth publicity happens through social media.
Meanwhile ‘Hanuman’ has sold 4000 tickts so far. It has sold 3000 tickets in PVRInox and 1000 tickets in Cinepolis. But, both the films cater to a very different set of audience. The advances could have been better though. Considering it’s the Makar Sankranti weekend, things can get better over the weekend.
The early reviews of both these movies look promising but the bookings of the Telugu version of ‘Hanuman’ are better. Meanwhile, ‘Merry Christmas’ has also released in Tamil and due to Sethupathi, the film is expected to do a decent business even in Tamil. As per the advance booking trends, the first day collection of ‘Merry Christmas’ is expected to be Rs 2 crore from the Hindi version.
