Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Merry Christmas‘ has seen an average opening on Day 1. The Sriram Raghavan movie was always expected to have a slow start but the film gathered rave reviews and has seen a growth in the business due to positive word of mouth. That is what was predicted about ‘Merry Christmas’.
After opening at Rs 2.45 crore on Friday, ‘Merry Christmas’ saw a growth on Day 2 and made Rs 3.75 crore. Now on Day 3, it saw a slight spike again and made Rs 3.50 crore on Sunday. With that the three day weekend collection of the film is expected to be around 9.65 crore net as per early Sunday estimates, according to Sacnilk.com.
The film also released in Tamil, but it faced competition from two big south releases, ‘Hanuman’ and Mahesh Babu’s ‘Guntur Kaaram’. ‘Hanuman’ also released in Hindi and the collections have been excellent as the film collected Rs 5.75 crore on Saturday and it saw a big growth from Sunday. This Hindi version made Rs 6 crore on Sunday and that’s certainly given a competition to ‘Merry Christmas’.
However, the Raghavan movie has gotten positive reviews from all over and fans have loved Katrina and Vijay’s chemistry. So, the Monday numbers will be a major deciding factor for the film’s fate and one expects the film to hold steady if the positive feedback continues.
