Prabhas starrer ‘Salaar‘ directed by Prashanth Neel is releasing on Friday, December 22. However, uptil Thursday afternoon, there was no certainty on the number of screens that the film will release in. Moreover, reports suggested that there was some foul play going on, as ‘Salaar’ was denied equal sharing of screens in most multiplexes and single screens in the North, especially, PVRInox and Miraj Cinema.
Due to this, it was being said that ‘Salaar’ had decided to withdraw from PVRInox and Miraj Cinema even in the south. However, PVRInox denied these reports and said, “We have come across some speculative media reports about the film SALAAR and its release at PVR INOX Cinemas. We would like to clarify that these reports are incorrect, SALAAR is one of the most anticipated films of the year and it’s releasing across pan India PVR INOX cinemas on the scheduled release date i.e., 22 December 2023. statement from PVR INOX.”
Now here’s some latest update and some good news for cinegoers! The rift has finally been resolved and ‘Salaar’ is now set to release in equal number of screens in the north and will have 70 percent screens in the south. A source says, “We have opened national chains after agreed for equal sharing in north and 70% sharing in south.”
With this news in, many exhibitors are now breathing a sigh of relief. When ETimes spoke to Manoj Desai, Executive Director, Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Cinema on Wednesday, he was not happy with the way things were going. He had said, “Friday the film is releasing and we’re still hanging with no advance bookings open or no certainty of anything.”
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Dunki’ had a decent opening on Day 1.
