Ever since ‘Animal’ has released, the film has remained a centre of many controversies. While it has generated those huge box office numbers, it invited equal share of criticism and comments. Many called it misogynistic and have a huge problem with the way female characters in Vagan’s films are portrayed.
He reflected upon that during an interview with Galatta Plus and reacted to the comments on a few scenes from the film.He also discussed the dynamics betweenRanbir Kapoor‘s character (Rajvijay) and his wife Geetanjali (played by Rashmika Mandanna) in the movie. Vanga revealed that in a scene where Ranbir couldn’t stand anyone speaking ill of his father, and it leads to a fight, was not deliberately orchestrated. The focus was on defending his father and proving that he’s a great father. He thought that it added a nice dramatic quotient.
Vanga also said that he’s observed people in the US and their lifestlye which is quite different from India and Indian women love staying there because they feel independent. However, in the movie, they were then staying in a palace where everything was under control. Vanga also reflected on the scene were Rashmika gestures Ranbir to come and sleep on her lap. In the film, the way Rashmika was calling him, was like she was calling a kid.
While people call the film misogynistic, Vanga says that Geetanjali had a huge influence on Ranvijay and that was subtly conveyed through many scenes.
‘Animal’ has crossed Rs 500 crore at the domestic box office and Rs 800 crore worldwide.
