A Microfiction
“It wasn’t my fault. You can’t fire me.”, she yelled.
“Ma’am you need to get your things and leave the property.”, a security guard threatened.
She had been set up. The anger almost broke her. Almost. She grabbed her things and headed to the garage where her car was parked on level 3. As she made her way to the elevator she felt the eyes of her coworker scrutinizing her. Seven years for this.
“You almost got away with it didn’t you.”
She didn’t even know the guy, but some how he felt comfortable enough to talk about her and pass judgment. She just looked past him and pushed by. Instead of breaking her a miraculous thing began to take place.
She got in her car and powered it on. The radio came on, an Eminem song played. She heard the familiar lyrics, “I am whatever you say I am, if I wasn’t than why would I say I am…. I don’t know I guess it’s just the way I am”. She listened, mouthing the words from memory. She’d teach them a lesson. The best lesson they ever would have the chance to experience.
She looked into her rearview mirror. One eye saw forward beyond the mirror, the other saw the reflection from behind. Both allowed her to see events from past and present simultaneously. a 360 view of the environment, as well as the situation. All of a sudden in the mirror was another reflection. The reflection winked at her before exiting, leaving only her looking back at herself. It felt like her true self had been before her. She’d help herself and then others. She glanced at the mirror again, in the distance, in either direction was the mirror being, always there, expanding her view.
