Priyanka Chopra, who started her acting career in 2002 with Tamil film, ‘Thamizhan’, recently revealed that it was only after the super success of Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Krrish‘ that she was in a position to pick and choose projects.
During a masterclass at the 2023 Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Priyanka engaged in a conversation with actor Bhumi Pednekar and discussed how receiving critical acclaim played a pivotal role in establishing her reputation as an actor.

During the conversation, Bhumi inquired about the phase when Priyanka gained the ability to select her projects, to which the ‘Barfi!’ actor responded, “Many, many films later. I think around the time of the first ‘Krrish,’ perhaps. Before that, it was always, ‘Oh my God, what’s the next one I am going to do? What opportunities will come my way?’ I simply chose from what was presented to me.”

Elaborating further, Priyanka added, “After the first Krrish, because I had just done Aitraaz as well, I had done work which gave me a solid foundation. I got critical acclaim. I had people telling me that I knew my job even though I didn’t know that I knew my job. But that was a very clear time when I started seeking work that would challenge me.”

Apart from this, Priyanka has also been a part of Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’, for which she won a National Award. Spilling some beans on the film, the actress shared, “

Fashion was a time when I took that decision. It was right around Krrish that Madhur sir and I met. At that time, I was told that ‘ladkiya female oriented roles apne career ke end mein karti hai National award ke liye. Tumhari to abhi abhi shuru hui hai. You have just done Krrish and Aitraaz, you are having such a moment. Why are you doing it (Fashion)?’ This is early 2005 or 2006. But I just didn’t know any better.”
On the work front, Priyanka will next be seen in Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ co-starring Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif. She is also a part of ‘Citadel 2’.
